about

The Cool Jazz NOSTALGIA show by Jazz Smugglers. Classic jazz songs you know from the 50's, and lots of audience fun. Beautifully played, the most watchable octet in Sussex. From the era of Stan Getz, Gerry Mulligan, Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, Paul Desmond, the MJQ, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern -plus the Jazz Smugglers Trio. The beautiful small band sound.

This is the show that is being put on at the 200 seat theatre, in the Lanes as part of the Brighton Festival in May. It is also being launched at the Bosham Village Hall in June as part of the Chichester Festivities. We are also booked into the Arundel Festival in August.

Beautiful songs such as: All the things you are, Ella Fitzgerald; Girl from Ipanema, Stan Getz; Loverman, Billie Holliday; Blue Moon, June Christy; So What, Miles Davis; Watermelon Man, Herbie Hancock; How High the Moon, Les Paul; Summertime, 'everyone'.

Mostly the line up consists of two or three saxes, guitar, bass, drums and piano and a wonderful singer, but we play trios and quartets too.

"Being the keynote jazz band at the Chichester Jazz Festival was a highlight for us. We had a wonderful time, and 300 turned up to hear us that Saturday afternoon.
"Other highlights have been Priory Park Chichester, Hotham park bandstand Bognor, a lovely evening with the Bosham Friends of Old Meadow, a few plush weddings, amongst similar functions, anniversaries and private parties. We have played recently at a big charity gig at Patrick Moore's house and garden in Selsey."
