Introduction

The Slinfold Village Cinema has been held monthly on Friday evenings during the winter months (October - March) for the past ten years. It is a popular social gathering for villagers, as well as providing a good evening's entertainment. The main feature film is always preceded by the ever-popular — and often amusing — Slinfold Newsreel recording aspects of village life over the past year.

It is held on the second Friday of the month: the dates and films are announced in the village magazine, on this website (see below), on posters around the village, and in an e-mailing list.

For the 2011-2012 season, the profits from the Village Cinema went towards a different, usually local, charity each month. This includes any profits from the box office, plus profits from the sale of refreshments. The charity to be supported each month, and the amount raised, is given in the list of Season Dates below.

In order to be viable, the Cinema needs an audience of at least 40 is needed for it to be viable, so please support the cinema and enable us to support the charity of the month.

In previous seasons, all profits from the Village Cinema have gone towards Village Hall funds, and we are very grateful that, since it started in February 2002, the Village Cinema has contributed a net profit of £3,765 towards Village Hall funds (box office £2252, refreshments £1513.). The net total for the 2010-2011 season was £354 (£291 from box office takings (after deduction of royalties and expenses), and £243 from refreshment sales).

We would particularly like to express our thanks to Charles Chatwin and his team of helpers for the considerable effort they put into arranging and showing the cinema each month, and also for the very large number of hours Charles spends filming, compiling and producing the Slinfold Newsreel.

Unfortunately those who have previously arranged the Village Cinema are unable to do so for the 2012-2013 season.

If you would like to see the Village Cinema continue and you have any ideas for achieving this — and particularly if you would be prepared to volunteer and help with its running — please contact the Chairman of the Trustees.

For the 2011-2012 season, the Village Cinema was held on the second Friday of each month, with the profits from each month's takings going towards a different charity:
